This natural Red Bourbon coffee comes from small producers in the Nyamasheke region, a mountainous area in southwestern Rwanda near Lake Kivu. Grown between 1,600 and 2,000 meters above sea level , it benefits from a temperate climate, consistent rainfall, and nutrient-rich volcanic soils, which contribute complexity and structure to the cup.

The cherries are carefully selected and processed by Rwamatamu Coffee , a family project founded in 2015 by Gaston Rutaganda and Laetitia Mukantwaza with a clear mission: to empower rural communities through coffee, creating fair employment and development opportunities. Today, the project is led by their daughter, Marie Bernice , and her husband, Luke , who have established Rwamatamu as one of the most committed players in sustainability, traceability, and quality in Rwanda.

Rwamatamu works with local farmers under fair trade models and actively collaborates on training, financial inclusion, and female leadership programs. More than 60% of the workers involved in processing and drying are women. In addition, the team has developed programs for access to clean water and education in neighboring communities.

Kirunga is processed using the natural method, without fermentation. The ripe cherries are slowly sun-dried on African coffee beds, allowing the bean to absorb the fruit's natural sugars. The result is an intense, bright, and juicy cup, with notes of red currant, blueberry, and strawberry , a silky body, and a clean finish.

This coffee isn't just a delight for the palate: it also represents a form of ethical, sustainable production with a real impact at source. A cup that connects with the people behind each bean.
