Produced by smallholders from the Konga people in Yirgacheffe (by Wete Amabela Coffee)
This coffee is processed at a washing station owned by Wete Ambela Coffee Export PLC, located in Wete Kebele, Konga District, within the famous Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia, at 2050 masl. The station produces approximately 54 tons of coffee per year, using cherries grown on adjacent farms located between 2050 and 2200 masl, where farmers grow indigenous varieties.
About Konga region:
Konga is a village in the Yirgacheffe District, part of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region (SNNP) in Ethiopia. Renowned for producing some of the most exclusive micro lots in the world, this region combines high altitude (up to 2,200 m above sea level in some areas), fertile soils, abundant rainfall and traditional know-how that have cemented the reputation of Yirgacheffe coffees. The indigenous varieties, which grow wild in Ethiopia, provide unique flavours that stand out in the cup: intense citrus acidity, chocolate sweetness, and delicate floral and herbal notes of lavender, jasmine, bergamot and thyme.
Processing method:
This coffee is processed by the washed method. The cherries are hand-picked, pulped to remove mucilage and then soaked for 48 hours before being dried on African beds for 18 to 21 days.
Flavor Profile:
Our team uses a “flavor circle” to classify the profiles of our Ethiopian coffees. This coffee belongs to the “Dhilgee” profile, which means “blood red” in the Oromiffa language. It represents coffees with delicate floral aromas, notes of red berries and purple fruits, which together create a round, sweet and complex cup.
